Nightwish: Imaginaerum About two years ago, I found Nightwish. They were a fantastic hybrid of rock and opera. Some songs were more operatic than others, but the sound was just incredible. I instantly fell in love with their music and got all their CDs. Their latest, Imaginaerum, is good, but not their best. With any of their albums, you have some amazing songs and then some songs you give one raised eyebrow to (Spock style). Usually the raised eyebrow comes when the male singer starts in. For some reason, their male vocalist is consistently bad, while the lead female voice is consistently amazing. The song "Storytime" is probably my favorite from the album. It's a catchy song, her voice is great, and they sound like they were trying to mimic ABBA (which is a good thing). Overall, the album isn't bad. It's got a few great songs with a few that make you want to reach for the "skip" button on your player. The few great songs make it worthwhile though, and this is another fine release from an amazing group. If you're new to Nightwish, I wouldn't recommend starting with this album, as it is certainly not their best. I would go with Dark Passion Play if you're just giving them a listen for the first time.
