Rant 4: Could someone bring me some toilet paper?!.... and some pizza?
With all the fear mongering that is going on with the Covid-19 outbreak, I thought it a good time to speak my mind, since I am on a self-imposed home quarantine. Why am I doing this? Simply because I’m one of the high-risk individuals who, if infected, would have the highest chance of dying. I’m not quite ready to write myself off yet, so I’m taking extra precautions.
My wife went to the store yesterday to get some groceries and the shelves were empty. I’m sure the stores are loving this, but people need to realize that buying all the TP and hand sanitizer will only short-change the rest of the people and put yourself more at risk, while hosing the elderly and ones truly at risk of dying from this.
I am on an immunosuppressant for my MS and my doctor’s recommendation was basically to isolate myself as much as possible. Don’t go into heavily populated areas (stores, places where people have been in high traffic areas, etc.). I am going to take my Dr's words to heart and have decided not to leave my home and not allow anyone downstairs with me for a while. My wife is the only one allowed within ten feet of me. She is very hygiene-conscious and takes all the precautions not to get me sick (she’s kind of a germaphobe).
I want you to listen to this video, because I really don’t want to rewrite what was already stated so well. I don’t care on what side of the political fence you sit; this is a time for all to work together and stop playing politics.
Will this get worse? Will it blow over and be done soon? No one knows. But the last thing we need to do is instill fear and panic in people. I am one of those people who would be a statistic if I were to catch it. Many of you would have my Megadeth collection if I were to contract this virus (if you don’t understand that reference, then I’m sorely disappointed in you). I am not going to panic. I am not going to freak out and start hoarding for the end of days. What I am going to do is calmly take the precautions that are within my power to do and relax. If I know I’ve done all I can and still get it, then so be it. I hope I don’t, but I’m not going to blame anyone if I did.
The majority of people out there are in danger of flu like symptoms. A high fever and body aches for a few days and a week or two recovery where hopefully you don’t go outside and infect others. It’s pretty simple
at this point.
The stock market is falling (people are in for some big earnings when this blows over!), people are scrambling to buy everything the stores have, and the media is forcing anti-Trump rhetoric down people’s throats when they should be offering facts, and reassurances that if we do things right, we can minimize the effects this will have on our nation. Just have a brain, people. Just look at the facts and realize that our government is doing all they can, both locally and federally. Their response time was incredible and we all need to unite in these uncertain times.
With that said, it makes me sad that I have to tell people to not come over (or if you do, you have to wait at the top of my stairs and talk to me from there). Having people stop by is actually one of my favorite things: it shows friendship, compassion, caring, and love. So please do the right things for your family and loved ones. Make sure they are taken care of by going that extra mile for them. If they need groceries, water, or… pizza, make sure you’re taking care of yours. This will blow over eventually and after it does, there will be a lot of pain and sorrow felt for those who were affected. Let’s be sure we are there to care.
Pray for the country, pray for our state, pray for our cities, but most importantly, pray for your families and friends while doing everything we can to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Rant 3: Some words about my dad, who passed on Feb 3rd.
The other morning, I got the phone call that my father had passed away. We received word that the family should come see him the night before. While there, it was obvious he didn’t have much longer on this earth. The feeling while we all sat and stood in his room while he was slowly fading further to that divide between our mortal realm to that of peace and release was surprisingly calm. So, I’ve decided to write a bit about my father and let you all know some of the qualities that he had that makes me believe our Father in Heaven will accept his offer and Christ’s sacrifice will be in full effect.
My dad was the product of dysfunctional lifestyles, abuse, and inconsistencies that would drive most off the deep end, so he joined the military to escape the hells he was raised in. The military in the 50’s was certainly not known for making it easy on soldiers, yet this was an escape for him and his skills he had already amassed as a mechanic were enhanced. After the military, he worked mostly as a millwright and was extremely proud of the plants he helped build (if you knew him, I’m sure you heard of them).
Now, I do not want to dwell on the negatives, that’s not my purpose, but the demons he faced caused problems throughout his life as well as the lives around him. As a family, we moved over 20 times, and we always lived with uncertainty and fear that our current situation would come to an end. The heart sinking feeling of coming home from school and seeing a U-Haul in the driveway was all too real and common that my mother jokes that she gets homesick every time she sees a U-Haul.
As time went by and I grew older, I had a choice. I could hold on to old pains and use it to justify not forgiving, not allowing myself to exercise the two-way beauty that comes from Christ-like actions, or I could find a way to let go of the past and live in the present. After I first forgave him for his mistakes and allowed myself to put away the self-crippling feelings that come from holding on to negative emotions, I found my relationship with my father getting better and better. As I grew closer to my dad, I was able to give him credit for a lot more than I had ever given him credit for.
If you know my family, you know that my mother is an angel. She’s the reason there is goodness in her children. Fortunately, my father allowed her to be at home and spend her energies doing everything for her family. This is the greatest gift my father ever gave to his children and for that I am so grateful.
My dad was the hardest worker I have ever known. Even though we moved a lot, he never sat idle. He was always working. Not working was simply not an option for him. This work ethic made him invaluable wherever he was employed, and allowed my mother to always be that influence in our home that serves as the guiding light and example to all around her.
One thing my dad did provide were a lot (I mean a LOT) of humorous stories. I won’t get into them in this, but I do plan on writing a piece of things my dad did and said that will amuse you as well as make you shake your head wondering if I am actually telling the truth. That will be one of my next projects.
In his final year, my dad lost more and more physically as well as cognitively. Being unable to walk, and being unable to think like he used to was a constraining hell that he existed in (it was really over the last four years that he was hit hardest, but he decreased the most both physically and mentally over the past year). I can relate to these hells as I’ve seen myself decrease both physically and mentally as my disease has affected my daily life in every way. So, when he passed, there was little room for mourning. Instead, I celebrate the freedom he was given. I feel joy in knowing that he has had those physical and mental shackles removed.
As I think back, I am so grateful that I reached a point where I could move forward and just love him for who he was. The more I think about his life and the hells he had to deal with, the more grateful I am for loving Father in Heaven that will be merciful to those who did the best they could and fought to overcome the difficulties of mortality.
My father had a hard time expressing feelings and emotions (other than anger), but small miracles happened that opened his heart and allowed him to be a more loving person. He became a grandfather. I smile and am filled with gratitude for the lessons he learned from becoming Grandpa Fang (Fang was what my mother called him for as long as I can remember, so he was naturally Grandpa Fang).
The love he had for his grandchildren was wonderful to see in action. He expressed love and a fondness for all of them that I had never seen growing up. Again, I could go two ways with this. I could be bitter and upset that he could show others what he was unable to show me as I grew up, or I could see it as a wonderful thing that he found a way to express love and allow others into his heart. It took me a while, but I made that decision to look at it from the positive point of view, and I am so grateful I reached that point.
The last few years, my relationship with my dad got better and better. He showed respect for my actions in my life and not too long ago actually said the words “I am proud of you!” He gave me approval for the man I have become, and I found myself reciprocating that to him. I approve of the man he had become. He was still that ornery old guy that you rolled your eyes at quite often, but he had progressed from a state that offers little promise or hope for the future, to a respectable man who, in his way, did all he could for his family.
So, to close this out, just know that I did love my dad, and I am so happy that his hells in mortality are finally over. He was an amazing worker, and fought all his life to battle the demons that tried so hard to ruin him. His strength and determination allowed him to be a respectable man, and though not the most active, he did have a testimony of the gospel and would share it any chance he had. He was proud of all his children, even if he didn’t have the words to say it.
So, this was not an overly mournful situation (and some were surprised to see us as a family so calm and at peace with this). He was released from the limitations of the earthly realm and his own personal hells, and we should all hope that we can all achieve the amount of progress he made in his life. If we all strive for that, then the reunion on the other side will be a glorious one indeed.

Rant 2: Just because we can doesn't mean we should.
A few years back, I was reading Frankenstein in my English class at Weber State University. That book turned into one of my favorites, not just in school but in life. The writing in previous centuries was so much better because it had to be. They didn’t have television, movies, games, etc. to keep them entertained and so they turned to the pages of the written word to keep them busy in their free time.
The premise of Frankenstein can be summed up with a simple sentence: Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Dr. Frankenstein had the ability to do something he thought was extraordinary and proceeded to act before really thinking it through. Because he had the ability, he felt he was justified. In the process he not only ruined the life of the creature he created, but turned his own life into a living hell with pain and regret beyond his imagination.
We are in the same situation with our country at this point. While I have never enjoyed politics, I’ve been kind of thrust into searching to see just what is going on. Right now, we have a growing crisis in the political scene. The two-party system has always served to keep everything in check. This is why we learn of the government process from an early age and hope that children will grow up smart enough to become well informed adults who make decisions based on what is best for our country.
There are some scary figures in politics right now, and while I always stayed independent in my political affiliation, the political atmosphere of late has made is so that there is no middle ground. Now, before you start shaking your head and saying “Yeah, Trump’s an idiot!” or “Romney’s a sellout!” or whatever your political belief is, let me just tell you how I see it.
First off, Trump is a thug. It’s just that simple. He is a belligerent, pompous, arrogant man who needs to have his Twitter account taken away from him. He’s rude, belittling, and annoying as almost anyone I’ve ever seen. With that said, I will be voting for him in the next election.
The reason I’ll be voting for him is simply because he has done the most good of any president I’ve seen in my lifetime (Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump). Our country is doing better financially than we’ve ever done. Our unemployment rate is the lowest it has ever been. Our military is stronger than it’s ever been. Mr. Trump has stepped in and simply started running the country like a business. If you do your homework, you’ll see that we have it better in our country than we’ve ever had it on all fronts.
I’ve always held firm to my opinion that if you show me a good person to vote for, I’ll vote for them. It’s that simple. Right now, the Democratic party is in shambles. They are all over the map with their ideas, and they range from mildly annoying to completely absurd. The socialistic ideas coming from them are scary to say the least. The scare tactics used by the left are absurd to the educated, but sound reasonable to people who don’t want to take the time to do a little research and see what history tells us. Socialist governments do not work! Everyone mocks China and North Korea for the way their citizens are treated, but we have people within our system that are pushing for us to go in that direction.
To the uneducated, it sounds great. The government will take care of you, pay your bills, give you free health care, and free education. The education part is probably the last thing someone who wants socialism would ever want to give you, so don’t get your hopes up there.
When you look at what socialism does, you’ll see that there is a ruling class that emerges and takes over everything. Choice is taken away from the people. Accountability is turned into “follow, or die” (for some great examples of this, look up Russia, and the ever-popular Germany during Hitler’s reign).
This is what many on the left are pushing for, and people are actually looking at it and saying “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea”. If a person drives up in a van and tells your children there’s candy in the back, you’re going to freak out on them, call the police, and hide your children away. Right now, that is simply the tactic of the left. They are pulling up that van and enticing people to come and they will be given all the candy they could ever want. The sad part is that people are falling for it.
In this point in history there has never been a more tolerant society for every walk of life, yet you constantly will hear idiotic statements like prejudice or homophobic being slung around like casual greetings. These statements are meant to put you into an automatic defensive state rather than being able to talk to people rationally. Look at the facts. That is what I want people to do. We are living in the least homophobic, least prejudiced, and financially robust time in the history of our nation, yet certain groups want to make everything into something prejudiced, homophobic, or the fault of the one percent.
The one percent. I have never heard anything so stupid in my life as when you have people in the media and politics going off on the one percent. There will ALWAYS be a one percent! If you make over two hundred and fifty thousand a year, you’re one of them! And that’s fantastic! We all want to do well in our fields, and now we have people of wealth convincing the lay person that in some way that is a bad thing to be. Yet the very people who are touting their rhetoric are living in mansions, own multiple homes and are absolutely in that category. Again, do your homework. There is nothing wrong with making money. You do not owe society more if you make more. You just worked harder and are living what we all would live if we could. There’s a reason we call it the American dream!
The Wall!
Why is the wall racist? Why is the wall bad? Let me ask you a simple question: Do you lock your doors at night? Why? Do you leave your door open during the day so people can come in and eat all your food, sleep in your bed, shower in your bathroom, and wear your clothes? I didn’t think so. So, why is building a wall a bad or racist thing? It’s neither. It’s locking the door so that people have to knock first. That is all. We allow over a million people each year to come into our country and take up residence. There are procedures to follow and rules to obey. I’m not seeing how not allowing people to walk in without going through the process as anything bad. It’s called knock before entering. You must take the steps. But, in the political world, some are using this is a way of bashing on our president. The ones doing this are severely brain damaged, in my opinion, and should seek medical help as soon as possible.
One of the open wounds in our country is the tax money (that the working class pay for) that is being spent giving financial and medical assistance to people who are not here legally. Let’s see you go to another country and claim you have rights and that they should pay for your care. Let me know how that goes.
People need to wake up. We need to understand and educate ourselves as to what is going on. I’m not speaking of the off the handle emotional rhetoric that is spewed in our faces every day by the news and parts of our flailing government officials who are in a panicked frenzy to distort every aspect of the truth, but I’m saying look at it logically. Look at it as though our country is a business (guess what, it is) and it needs to be treated in a way that benefits the business, which in turn makes life better for the employees.
I could go on and on (guess I kind of already have), but I’ll stop here. I just hope that in the coming election that people will stop riding the roller coasters of emotion and manipulation and look at what has gone on and what amazing steps we’ve taken to avoid financial disaster for our nation. A nation that I love. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. This is the pledge of allegiance that many want taken out of our schools, and out of our nation. I stand by this pledge and love my country. All I ask is that people do their homework and use their brains. We’ll see what happens next year when I hope that people will stand up for what is right.
So why did I call this “Just because we can doesn’t mean we should”? Simply because there are a lot of bogus ideas that the uneducated are buying into, and if enough people want that kind of system brought in, we will end up like Dr Frankenstein and regret the beast we will have created, which will eventually be our downfall as a nation. Let’s hope it never gets to that point.

Rant 1: Welcome Back!
What is Rustyarmor.com? For many years now it has been my place where I post information about my hobbies, such as music, games, sports, and most importantly my writing. While I haven’t been able to sit down and write for a few years, I realize that it’s a piece of my life that’s been missing. So, I started my site back up and will attempt to write and post, and just have fun with it.
I can’t promise the quality will be anywhere near what it was before when I had the site up, but I can say that I’ll post a few things now and then. I’ve turned more to doing videos lately, and while those are fun, they just can’t match a well written rant like I’ve done in the past. I’m going to try to get back to that.
Why the hiatus? MS has taken some of the best parts of my life away from me. I can no longer play Basketball, no longer enjoy school, no longer work, no longer remember a lot of things. Every now and then someone will bring up something I had either done, written, or witnessed in the past, and I stare at them with a blank look on my face.
One of the lesions in my brain was directly over the memory recall center. This has led me to a memory that has really let me down at times. My brothers will bring up things that happened in the past, and I just have to take their word for it. When I meet new people, I do not remember their names until I’ve known then for months and have frequent dealings with them. I can’t read without forgetting what I read a few pages before.
So, this horrid disease has taken away a lot of the aspects of my life that gave me purpose and validation before. There have been a lot of good things that have gone on, and sometimes those are hard to keep at the forefront of the mind to offset all the negatives.
One of the best positives for me was getting married. I married an amazing woman who walked with me during the onset of all this medical mayhem. She became my best friend before becoming anything permanent. I think this was the biggest blessing of all because there have been no surprises in our marriage. We walk the path of life together, not just side by side. If anyone’s considering marriage, just be sure you are actual best friends before you marry. It will enhance every aspect of your relationship and will give you security like you’ve never known.
If you remember back to when my page was going before, my rants are definitely not touchy feely, make your heart warm type of things. I usually talk about stuff people don’t like to talk about because it requires an opinion, and leans more towards the moralistic part of our society that has been suppressed. Hopefully I’ll be able to get into the swing of it again and post some interesting stuff.
So, welcome back to my page, and be sure and either leave me a comment on Facebook, or drop me a line here (links are at the bottom of the page). Hopefully I can get some interesting and entertaining content up. If not, I’ll still put up stuff, even if it’s boring.
